This session was a ton of fun. Their baby girl was just under 3 months old when we headed outdoors last fall in the evening to capture some beautiful portraits of this new family of three. This particular evening was a wee bit stressful. Just before our session, the forecast quickly changed and a thunderstorm was rolling in. We were already headed out to our location so we went ahead anyway and I worked a bit quicker than usual. I prayed so many prayers that the rain would hold off. Thankfully it did! I LOVE doing outdoor sessions with babies. Whether they are just a couple weeks old, a few months old or sitting/crawling age – all stages of baby’s first year are a blast to photograph. Outdoor newborn sessions are a great option for this spring/summer when Ontario still has restrictions on indoor gatherings/businesses. It’s quite easy to maintain a safe distance and I’m working really hard on using verbal cues rather than getting in close with my hands as I’ve always done in the past. 😉
This baby girl was so sweet, she fell fast asleep near the end of her session. That’s always such a fun bonus when babies do that. The fresh air often makes little babies pass right out. Especially if it’s close to their bedtime. This family chose a more casual vibe for their session photos. Each session can be unique and catered to a family’s style really based on wardrobe and location. A flowy dress for mom and a button down shirt on Dad would have given this session a dressier feel. I love arriving to meet each family and seeing their individual outfit choices. This family’s casual vibe really worked with the rustic, wooded backdrop of this location.
I’m really excited to do more of these this summer. I’ve got some nice new swaddle blankets that mama’s can use to wrap their babies up all cute and snug and I have a good selection of longer lenses which allow me to maintain distance, while still getting those close up detail images. I’ll be reaching out to all the families with newborns who have booked in for April-June sessions to offer outdoor as an option for this summer.
