Baby's first birthday is a huge milestone and deserves to be documented. That first year with a new baby is hard and when baby turns one it's a celebration not only for your child, but for you as parents. You did it! You conquered arguably the hardest year.
You can choose to capture baby in-studio, outdoors or in your own home.
Session Options
THE STUDIO SESSION
This session focuses on capturing baby’s fun personality with a minimalistic and simple style. My first birthday sessions do not include themed props and backdrops (like unicorns, mickey mouse, woodland theme) or real cake smashes. But what this session does include is traditional portraits (baby looking at the camera), as well all their unique expressions, candid moments, and intimate details of their tiny hands and feet. I have a full studio wardrobe of outfits that photograph beautifully that you are welcome to use. I also have a nice collection of wooden toys to keep baby engaged, including a wooden cake prop that is perfect for first birthday photos, without all the mess and cost of a real cake. I schedule studio birthday sessions when baby is 11 months old so that we can capture them before they start walking, which makes it much more difficult to photograph them in a small space. Also it allows families to have their gallery images edited and printed for displaying at baby's birthday party. This is a great option for the winter months (November - April)
THE OUTDOOR SESSION
In the warmer months (May-October), I usually recommend heading outdoors for a family session. We focus on getting family photos, all the different combinations of baby with each family member and also lots of solo images of them as well. Babies are happiest outside when they are able to roam free. We capture their first steps, exploring nature, playing with mom and dad and it's a ton of relaxed fun. The timing is flexible - we can do it before baby turns one or even within a few months afterwards.
THE IN-HOME SESSION
If you are looking for a relaxed vibe during the winter months, photographing baby in the comfort of their own home is a great option. We use baby's play area, the master bedroom, nursery and other spaces in your home to get a casual collection of images that showcase what most of your days are like - spending quality time as a family at home. We can read books, snuggle and even do a cake smash with baby in their high chair if that's on the wish list.
