What to Wear for Spring/Summer Family Photos – Burlington Photographer

I’ve been wanting to put together a post like this since FOREVER. Finally, I have a some time (thank you lockdown, I guess). I am really hoping that we are able to get outdoors for spring and summer family sessions soon. So many of you have emailed already to inquire and I love that I’ve got a decent waitlist of people who are as excited as I am. All we can do right now is wait for some good news and plan. What to Wear is the number one questions I get after moms book in for their family photos. I have always provided a prep guide that includes what to wear suggestions but I wanted to go one step further and provide some inspiration of pieces that work well together for the whole family. Taking that one step further, all the pieces I’m suggesting are Canadian brands or can easily be purchased in Canada. YAY! Right?

Here’s a few overarching tips that you can use when selecting your outfits.

  1. Neutrals always photograph well. You won’t regret wearing creams, whites and greys. It’s a classic look that will be beautiful year after year.
  2. Keep in mind your location – ask your photographer what to avoid.
  3. Dresses look the best in images and add movement so learn toward choosing a long flowy dress for mom and their girls.
  4. Coordinate pieces but don’t go all matchy matchy. Pick a shade or two and mix it with neutrals. I love muted colours rather than bright and bold.

I’d love to do this again and include more Canadian small businesses – if you know of a great Canadian clothing company please message me so I can add it to my list. 🙂
