I had a great time meeting two-week old baby Thomas and his parents at their Oakville home for a lifestyle newborn session in April. The entire session was warm and relaxed. Little Thomas slept almost the entire time! It was easy getting those details shots of his lashes, hands and feet that families always love. We incorporated lots of neat elements into his session, starting with a throw pillow on their master bed that said “My Happy Place”. How perfectly fitting. Mom had a vintage cradle from when she was small that Thomas has been sleeping in at night, nice and close to them, so we for sure incorporated that into some images. Using items that have meaning (and are beautiful!) make the session even more personal and unique. We photographed in their master, their sweetly decorated nursery and the living room to capture these memories of Thomas’ first weeks at home. He was such a peaceful and chill baby, I could have hung out there all day. For new parents, these two were completely calm and comfortable with their new son. They are obviously smitten with him and spend lots of time staring at him sleeping as we all tend to do in those early days. The miracle of life is so marvelling. I just love the image of Thomas sleeping on the bed with Dad watching in the background from the rocking chair. He offered to move when I was taking the shot but that was what I loved about it. It’s such a real reflection on those first weeks with a newborn baby. Everyone wants to be close by and catch all the action, even if that action is the slightest twitch of the finger or a periodic yawn. At the very end of the session we caught one of my favourite newborn actions – a sleepy smile! It was the perfect ending.
